Trincomalee

Trincomalee or Trinco as it is usually called is now the third largest city in Sri Lanka and is best known for its famous harbour. The Trinco harbour is one of the largest and finest deep water harbours of the world. The city’s central showpiece is Fort Frederick, built by the Portuguese colonists in Sri Lanka. Now it is used as an army barracks though visitors are allowed to stroll through it. Koneswaram Kovil is also one of the many attractions in Trinco with a religious milieu. The beaches of Trinco – mainly Nilaweli and Marble Bay are white soft sandy beaches that stretch a long way. Pigeon Island off Nilaweli also provides superb coves for shelter and uninterrupted tranquility for those that love to soak up the sun.
